ESN Cluj-Napoca

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Cluj-Napoca is a voluntary non-profit organization, a subsidiary of the international organization Erasmus Student Network. It was founded in 2004 by a group of students, being the first ESN section in Romania.
The main purpose back then was to help incoming Erasmus students integrate into the local community. In its early years, ESN Cluj-Napoca collaborated with just one university, and so the volunteers were concentrated to help mainly the students from that place. In those years we had about 15 to 20 people involved in those activity. While the Erasmus Program developed in our city, we started to do more and more activities and the number of our volunteers increased significantly. Our work is guided by the three main objectives of ESN International and we call it HPS strategy: helping incoming Erasmus students to integrate in the local society, promoting the Erasmus Program within the local students and supporting the outgoing Erasmus students to have a high quality experience.

We are proud to say that the organization activates in the city with the highest number of Erasmus Students from all over Romania, volunteers and international students as well! Our 100 active members are divided into 4 departments: Public Relations, Human Resources, Finances and Event Planning. Also, in the meantime we extended our collaboration having now on our portofolio The Babes-Bolyai University, The Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, The University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and The University of Arts and Design. Our main principle that guides our work is 'students helping students', through which we desire to fulfill not only the three main ESN objectives, but also the objectives that are important to ESN Cluj-Napoca. These are:

1. We support and help the integration of the Erasmus students in our local society and guide them during their stay. How? We help the students from the first day when they arrive in the city. We organize activities in order to present them the city and make them to get to know each other. We help them to see how beautiful the surroundings and the country are by organizing different trips. Given the first objective our goal is to promote the idea of being an Erasmus in Cluj-Napoca, and make their Erasmus experience unforgettable, so that it will increase the number of incoming Erasmus students the following years. Besides, we tend to create a positive image for the country and the city.
2. We promote the Erasmus Program between Romanian students from Cluj-Napoca. We have presentations together with the members of the International Office, and Erasmus students in the universities so we can create a real picture about what being an Erasmus student really means. We also create campaigns, online and offline, that promote the Erasmus Program for Romanian students. All of that, with the goal of increasing the number of outgoing Erasmus students.
3. On the other hand, we also try to maintain a good quality of the Erasmus Program by supporting the outgoing Erasmus students. We find it really important that the potential Erasmus students have somebody to turn to if they have any questions regarding living in a foreign city or studying abroad, at a particular university. That's also why our volunteers are really eager to help the outgoing students with their questions, since most of our members were already Erasmus students.
